Ependymoma

Ependymoma is a type of brain tumor associated mainly with childhood brain tumors. It is a type of cancerous tumor which starts in the thin tissues known as ependymal cells that are found inside the brain and/or spinal cord. The ependymal cells line the inner walls of the ventricles and cisterns and are responsible for producing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). As the tumor grows, it may block the flow of CSF within the brain, leading to increased pressure inside the skull, potentially resulting in brain damage. Surgery to remove the tumor is the primary treatment, and radiation and chemotherapy may also be used. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve the prognosis in cases of ependymoma.
