Burkholderia Cenocepacia
Burkholderia cenocepacia is a Gram-negative bacterium that is recognised as an important, opportunistic human pathogen associated with serious infections in patients with cystic fibrosis and other immunocompromised states. It can also cause infections in plants, animals, and in the environment. Its ability to cause disease, coupled with its resistance to antibiotics, has made it a major healthcare concern. B. cenocepacia is of particular interest to scientists as a model organism to study bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance. Research efforts have focused on understanding the molecular basis of virulence, the development of novel treatments, and the establishment of rapid diagnostic techniques. The findings of these studies have important clinical implications for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of bacterial infections.
