Bartonella

Bartonella is a genus of bacteria that can cause a variety of illnesses in humans, including cat scratch disease and trench fever. Bartonella bacteria are spread by effected animals to humans through blood-sucking arthropods, like fleas and ticks. Infection can lead to a range of symptons, including fever, headache, vomiting, skin rash and enlarged lymph nodes. Diagnosis and treatment of Bartonella infections has become much easier as scientists have identified more species of the bacteria and developed tests to identify them. Early treatment of Bartonella infections can prevent serious complications, so it is important to be aware of the signs and to seek medical attention if you suspect infection.
