Bacterial Pathogens
Bacterial pathogens are bacteria that cause disease in humans, animals, and plants. These bacteria can spread from one person to another through contact with infected bodily fluids, contaminated food, or even from person to person contact. Bacterial pathogens are a major source of hospital-acquired infections and can lead to serious illness and even death. As antibiotic resistance continues to increase, preventative measures and improved treatments for bacterial infections have become increasingly important. Effective diagnosis and treatment of bacterial infections is an important tool to reduce bacterial disease, mortality, and morbidity.
