Allergy

Allergy is an abnormal response of the body's immune system to an environmental substance, such as pollen, dust mites, animal dander, or certain foods. Allergy is a common condition; it affects between 30 and 40 percent of people in the United States alone. Symptoms vary widely, but commonly include sneezing, itching, skin rash, and watery eyes. In severe cases, allergies can even cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction. Allergies can be managed successfully through education, avoidance of allergens, and medications.
