Triploidy
Triploidy is a genetic disorder in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46. It is caused by the presence of an extra set of chromosomes, either inherited from one parent or due to an error in the cell division process. Triploidy can lead to severe physical and developmental problems, with severely affected infants typically having a lower than average birth weight, a large head size, difficulty feeding, breathing problems and a higher risk of stillbirth. In some cases, the condition can be diagnosed prenatally through prenatal testing. Treatment for triploidy can include supportive care, including nutrition and respiratory support, as well as physical and developmental therapies.
