Sex Chromosome
Abnormalities Sex chromosome abnormalities (SCAs) are conditions caused by a variation in the number or structure of sex chromosomes. In humans, sex chromosomes consist of two X chromosomes in females and an X and Y chromosome in males. Abnormalities arise due to the presence of extra or missing chromosomes or when one chromosome is structurally altered. SCAs can have a variety of impacts including physical, mental, and reproductive effects. They can also cause a range of conditions including Klinefelter Syndrome, Turner Syndrome, and XYY Syndrome. While SCAs are relatively common, there are treatments available to help manage the symptoms and improve quality of life. Early detection and diagnosis of these conditions is important to ensure effective treatment.
