Ring Chromosome
A ring chromosome is an abnormal type of chromosome consisting of a single, unbroken circular loop of DNA. It occurs when a chromosome breaks off and has its ends joined together. Ring chromosomes can have serious health consequences and can be associated with a wide range of birth defects, mental retardation, neurological problems, and many other medical conditions. In addition, ring chromosomes may also cause genetic abnormalities when inherited from a parent. The diagnosis and treatment of ring chromosomes often require the use of advanced medical testing and genetic counseling. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to improve the health condition of the individual affected.
