Regulons

Regulons are groups of genes that are coordinately expressed and play key roles in controlling cell physiology. When a gene or genes within a regulon are activated, a specific regulatory protein binds to the DNA near these genes, which then amplifies expression of the gene or genes. These regulatory proteins are involved in a variety of cellular functions and can be activated by both internal and external signals. Regulons are important for a variety of biological processes, including development, stress response, and infection. They are critical for understanding how cells respond to their environment and can be used to design therapeutic strategies for fighting cancer and other diseases.
