Chromosome Biology and Aging
Chromosome biology is the study of how the structure and the number of chromosomes in a cell affects the aging process. It is a rapidly growing field of research looking at how aging affects chromosomes and how certain genetic mutations are involved in the aging process. Understanding chromosomal biology is important to understanding the biology of aging and developing strategies to help humans live longer and healthier lives. It is also important for medical research and drug development in the area of age related diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. Knowing how and why cells age and how chromosomes are involved can help to unlock the secrets of human aging and improve our quality of life.
