Chromosome Abnormalities in Cancer
Chromosome abnormalities are changes in the structure or number of chromosomes. In cancer, a number of chromosomal abnormalities are associated with tumorigenesis and are often detectable in tumor cells. Chromosome abnormalities can provide important clues about the underlying changes that instigated tumor growth, and this knowledge can be used to develop more effective treatments and identify new therapeutic targets. In addition, they can also be used to diagnose certain types of cancer and assist in prognostic assessments in cancer patients.
