Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects communication, behaviour, and social interactions. It is characterized by difficulty in social interactions, difficulty in communication, and restricted and repetitive behaviors. People with ASD may experience difficulties in the areas of verbal communication, nonverbal communication, social interactions, and social-emotional reciprocity. Symptoms of ASD can range from mild to severe, and can affect a range of activities, including socializing, communication, activities of daily living, and academic performance. Treatment for ASD is multidisciplinary and includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, and educational interventions. Early intervention and comprehensive treatment has been found to improve outcomes and reduce the risk of ASD-related issues such as anxiety and depression.
