Hpv and Cervical Cancer
Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is a typically sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer in women. HPV is the most commonly diagnosed sexually transmitted infection in the world and is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer. Most cervical cancer cases are caused by two specific types of HPV, types 16 and 18. Getting vaccinated against HPV is the best way to prevent infection. Vaccines are now widely available to protect against the most common cancer-causing types of HPV. Getting routine cervical cancer screenings can also help diagnose the infection at an early stage and take appropriate action to prevent the development of cervical cancer.
