Conization

Conization is a surgical procedure in which a cone-shaped piece of tissue is removed from the cervix. It is sometimes referred to as cone biopsy. The purpose of conization is to remove abnormal or precancerous cells from the cervix. The sample of tissue is sent to a laboratory for analysis under a microscope to determine if further treatment is needed. Conization is an important tool for the early detection and treatment of cervical cancer, as it can detect precancerous changes before they become cancerous. It can also be used to remove a small tumor or abnormal tissue from the cervix.
