Cervical Cancer and Pregnancy
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that affects the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. It is the most common cancer in women under the age of 35. Pregnancy can increase the risk of cervical cancer, and a woman who is pregnant should take extra caution to monitor her health as she is at a heightened risk. In addition to her regular gynecological checkups, pregnant women may need regular Pap tests or HPV tests to screen for precancerous cells. Treatment for cervical cancer involves surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Early detection and treatment can help reduce the risk of death from cervical cancer.
