Metabolism

Metabolism is the set of chemical processes that occur within the cells of a living organism to sustain life. It is a necessary process for all living things, as it is what allows us to produce energy, break down food, and use and store the energy, nutrients, and waste from each process. Metabolism is essential for all basic functions of the body, including regulating growth, repairing cells, and reproducing new cells. Different types of metabolism occur within the body, such as anabolism which builds molecules, and catabolism which breaks them down. Metabolism is an essential part of the homeostasis of the body and aids in maintaining optimal health.
