Pathophysiology

Pathophysiology is the study of the abnormal changes in body function that occur with a particular disease or medical condition. It looks at how diseases, disorders, and injuries disrupt normal bodily functions and how they contribute to the development and progression of illness. Pathophysiology is an important tool in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders, as it helps identify which maladaptive changes are occurring and how they are affecting the body. By understanding the pathophysiologic changes that occur in a particular disorder, clinicians can better understand a patient’s symptoms and have a better idea of how to treat their ailments.
