Chemoprevention Strategies
Chemoprevention strategies are interventions designed to prevent the occurrence or recurrence of cancer with the use of certain drugs, vitamins, minerals, or other natural or synthetic agents. These agents interfere with the development of cancer or its progression. Chemoprevention can be seen as a form of primary prevention, since it attempts to stop cancer before it develops, or secondary prevention, since it attempts to stop the recurrence of cancer in people already diagnosed with cancer. Chemoprevention has been used in the prevention of several types of cancer, including breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers. Benefits of chemoprevention for cancer prevention include reduced risk of developing cancer, increased survival rates, and improved quality of life.
