Aromatase Inhibitors
Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are a class of drugs that block the production of the hormone estrogen, which is involved in the growth and progression of some cancers. By inhibiting the action of the enzyme aromatase, which is responsible for producing estrogen, AIs can reduce the amount of estrogen in the body and limit the growth of certain cancer cells. Their use in the treatment of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and other hormonally-responsive cancers has led to improved outcomes and longer-term survivorship for patients. By limiting the growth and spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body, AIs can help reduce the risk of cancer recurrence, increase the efficacy of certain other cancer treatments, and improve overall patient outcomes.
