Osteomalacia

Osteomalacia is a condition that affects the bones, resulting in weak and softened bones due to a lack of minerals and vitamin D in the body. This can lead to a number of problems, such as severe pain and fractures. Osteomalacia is most common in adults, particularly those who suffer from ailments like kidney disease or celiac disease, which can interfere with the absorption of key minerals and vitamins. Proper diet and adequate exposure to sunlight can help prevent and treat this condition. Treatment may also involve supplements, such as vitamin D and calcium, to restore bone health. Osteomalacia is an important condition to recognize and treat, as it can lead to further health complications.

Bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside some of the bones in the body, including the hip and thigh bones. Bone marrow contains cells called stem cells. When disease affects bone marrow so that it can no longer function effectively, a marrow or cord blood transplant could be the best treatment option; for some patients it is the only potential cure.
