Osteoimmunology

Osteoimmunology is the study of how the immune system and the musculoskeletal system interact to influence each other’s function and health. This interplay between the two systems is key to maintaining homeostasis (balance) within the body and providing protection against infection. Through research, this field of study is uncovering new ways to prevent and treat chronic diseases and musculoskeletal conditions. Osteoimmunology also has implications for areas such as aging, organ transplantation and regenerative medicine. The increasing understanding of this interrelationship between the immune and musculoskeletal systems will lead to further advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases.
