Vomit
oxin Vomitoxin, also known as deoxynivalenol, is a mycotoxin produced by fungi. It is a natural by-product of the growth of certain fungi on various grains, including wheat, barley, oats, rye and sorghum. Vomitoxin primarily affects humans, causing symptoms such as nausea, abdominal cramps and vomiting, but can also have adverse effects on animals. Due to its potential health hazards, its presence in food, feed, or grain products is monitored by health authorities. To reduce the risk of human exposure, vomitoxin levels in food and feed products are regulated globally. As a result, frequent testing, mitigation strategies, and careful handling are all necessary components in ensuring the safety of the food and feed supply.
