Vitreous Humour
Vitreous humour is a clear, jelly-like substance that fills the majority of the space between the lens and the retina within the eye. It is composed of 98-99% water, collagen and hyaluronic acid, and helps maintain the shape of the eye. It also helps to focus light onto the retina, allowing us to have clear vision. Vitreous humour is important for maintaining normal eye structure, refractive power and transparency. It also plays a role in the prevention of retinal detachment and provides nourishment for the optic nerve. In pathological conditions, vitreous humour can have a variety of functions, such as providing information about the health of the eye and aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
