Perilymph

Perilymph is a fluid found between the inner ear and the middle ear that helps transmit sound waves to the inner ear for hearing. It is composed of electrolytes and proteins and helps to maintain pressure between the two areas. It also helps to protect the inner ear from trauma, bacteria, and other harmful elements. Perilymph plays a major role in helping us hear, as well as in balance and coordination. Disorders of perilymph can lead to hearing loss, dizziness, and other hearing-related problems. Treatment of these disorders typically includes medication, surgery, and lifestyle changes.
