Portal Hypertension
Portal hypertension is a condition in which the blood pressure in the portal vein (the main vein leading to the liver) is increased. This can lead to the development of complications such as variceal bleeding, ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy. It is a serious condition, as it can be fatal if left untreated. Treatment options include lifestyle modifications, medications, and surgical interventions. It is important to seek prompt medical attention if signs or symptoms of portal hypertension are present. Early diagnosis and management can improve a patient’s prognosis and quality of life.
