Low Blood Pressure
Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, is a medical condition in which the pressure of the blood circulating in the body is lower than normal. It is usually defined as a reading of 90/60 mmHg or lower. Low blood pressure is common, and in many cases does not cause any health problems. However, if it becomes severe it can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or even a stroke or heart attack. Low blood pressure is often associated with certain medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, dehydration and certain medications. Treatment includes lifestyle modifications, such as drinking more fluids, exercising, and eating a healthy diet, as well as taking medications to regulate the blood pressure.
