Xenotransplantation

Xenotransplantation is an experimental procedure that involves the transplantation of donor tissue or organs from one species to another; for example, from a pig to a human. The goal of xenotransplantation is to find a more reliable source of organs than those available from human donors, as there is a chronic shortage of organs from humans. If successful, this procedure could save the lives of thousands of people who are currently waiting for an organ transplant. It could also reduce the risk of rejection and other complications that often occur when a human organ is transplanted into a patient. In addition, xenotransplantation could potentially be used to develop new treatments for diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's by introducing pig organs or cells into the human body.
