Virology
Virology is the study of viruses, including their structure, behavior, and development, as well as the interaction between viruses and their hosts. Virology focuses on the pathogenic aspects of virus infection, including the transmission of viruses from one organism to another, the mechanisms of virus replication, the prevention and treatment of viral infections, and the development of vaccines. Virology is an important field of study in the biomedical sciences because of its implications for global public health. Understanding virology helps to identify and prevent the emergence of new and emerging viruses, as well as develop new treatments for viral infections. Virology research contributes to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of viral diseases, including HIV/AIDS, influenza, hepatitis C, and Zika virus.
