Ultraviolet Radiation
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a form of electromagnetic energy that is invisible to the human eye, but is responsible for causing sunburn and tanning as well as damage to the skin, eyes, and immune system. UV radiation is present in sunlight, but is also produced by artificial sources such as tanning beds and welding torches. By understanding its causes and effects, and taking preventative measures, people can reduce their exposure to UV radiation and its associated risks. Protecting oneself from UV radiation is especially important for those who work outdoors and for those who are often exposed to artificial UV sources. Sunscreen and other protective measures can help to minimize the risk of skin cancer and other health problems related to ultraviolet radiation.
