Phylogeny
Phylogeny is the scientific study of the evolutionary relationships of species. It is a way of understanding the history of life on earth through analyzing the relatedness of species. It allows us to understand how different species are related to each other and explore the origin and development of life through time. Phylogeny has been used to understand the development of biodiversity, the emergence of infectious diseases, the history of species migration and the composition of microbial communities. It has been adopted by many fields within biology, such as evolutionary biology, genetics, and systematics. For example, it has helped to generate hypotheses of species' shared ancestry, as well as providing an important tool for the interpretation of ecological research.
