Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is a medical specialty that deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye. Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat eye diseases, manage ocular trauma and perform surgical procedures of the eye. Ophthalmologists are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of eye diseases, including glaucoma, corneal disorders, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and eye tumors. They also prescribe corrective lenses and provide pre- and postoperative care in patients undergoing eye surgery. Ophthalmologists play an important role in preserving and restoring vision, providing quality of life to individuals with vision problems.
