Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar Nonketotic Coma

Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar Nonketotic Coma (HHNC) is a serious medical condition caused by extreme elevation of blood sugar levels. It is a complication of diabetes and can lead to severe dehydration, coma, and, if left untreated, death. Symptoms of HHNC include excessive thirst, extremely concentrated urine, fatigue, confusion, and shortness of breath. HHNC is treated by restoring the body’s fluid balance and controlling blood sugar levels. Treatment includes intravenous fluids, insulin, and electrolyte replacement. Early and appropriate treatment of HHNC improves patient outcomes and can reduce the risk of long-term complications.
