Glycated Hemoglobin

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a form of hemoglobin that gets modified when glucose binds to it. It is a biomarker used to measure average glucose levels over a period of two to three months, and is seen as a better representation of blood glucose levels than single snapshot blood tests due to its longevity. This biomarker is used to diagnose and monitor diabetes, as well as to assess an individual's risk for diabetic-associated complications. HbA1c is an important indicator of diabetes control and is used as part of the standard of care in the management of diabetes. It is also used to adjust medication and lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, to keep glucose levels in check.
