Gastroparesis
Gastroparesis is a medical condition in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. It is usually caused by damage to the vagus nerve, which controls the muscles of the stomach. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, bloating, and pain in the upper abdomen. Complications can include malnutrition and weight loss. Treatment for gastroparesis includes dietary modifications, medications, and even gastric electrical stimulation. As many as 10-15% of people with diabetes develop gastroparesis, and therefore this condition is important to be aware of for those people with diabetes.
