Diabetic Wound Care
Diabetic wound care is the practice of caring for and treating wounds for people with diabetes. Such wounds can be caused by poor glucose control, vascular disease, or trauma from activities such as friction from ill-fitting shoes or excess weight. Wound care is important to help promote healing and prevent infection or further injury, as people with diabetes are prone to developing slow-healing or non-healing wounds. The aim of diabetic wound care is to reduce the risk of infection, decrease pain, and promote healing. Treatment of diabetic wounds may include topical antibiotics, advanced wound dressings, negative pressure wound therapy, and other strategies to reduce inflammation and promote wound healing. Wound care for people with diabetes is essential in helping to preserve tissue and reduce the need for amputation.
