Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is a health condition where one's nerves become damaged due to high levels of glucose in the blood. It’s a common complication of diabetes and can affect the arms, legs, and feet. Symptoms of DPN include mild to severe pain and numbness, increased sensitivity to touch, muscle weakness, and a lack of coordination. Poor blood sugar control can worsen DPN, making it important for diabetics to monitor their blood sugar levels regularly. Treatment usually involves managing underlying blood sugar levels and the pain associated with DPN. Medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications such as quitting smoking and staying active can help manage and prevent the disease. DPN can have a significant impact on a person's quality of life and it is important to seek treatment to reduce its long-term effects.
