Diabetes and Endocrinology Adrenal Cortex
The adrenal cortex is a part of the endocrine system in the human body and is responsible for producing hormones such as cortisol, aldosterone and androgens. These hormones affect energy metabolism and help to regulate important functions such as blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Adrenal cortex dysfunction can lead to a number of medical conditions, such as diabetes and Cushing’s syndrome. Treatment of these conditions depends on the underlying cause, with therapies focused on either stabilizing hormones or replacing hormones that have become deficient. Endocrinologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions, and are central to managing diabetes and other endocrine-related disorders.
