Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It is used in research and clinical settings as a tool to investigate brain activity as well as as a possible treatment for a range of neurological conditions, including depression and chronic pain. TMS is thought to work by influencing the release of neurotransmitters, resulting in a change in brain activity. Its effectiveness as a treatment is still being studied, although promising results have been seen in the treatment of various disorders.
