Psychoses

Psychoses are a group of severe mental disorders that cause a person to lose touch with reality. It typically involves symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech and behavior, and cognitive impairment. People affected by psychoses often have difficulty managing everyday life, and may experience problems with functioning in social and occupational settings. Treatment for psychoses generally involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy, with the goal of restoring the individual’s ability to function in their everyday life. Early intervention is important in order to improve the long-term outcome, as psychoses can be extremely disabling and have significant impacts on a person’s life.
