Liaison Psychiatry

Liaison psychiatry is a form of psychiatry that focuses on the treatment of mental health issues in the context of medical conditions. It bridges between medical and psychiatric services, providing holistic care to patients. It plays a critical role in the improvement of healthcare delivery systems, as well as in improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Liaison psychiatry provides care to people with complex physical and psychological needs, such as those suffering from chronic pain, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other physical illnesses. It also helps to identify and treat mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, that often accompany such medical conditions. Liaison psychiatry can also provide care to people in hospice, inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as in ambulatory care. It’s an important tool to help people get the most out of their medical care while also addressing any mental health concerns they may have.
