Humanism is an influential philosophical and ethical stance which emphasises the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively. It focuses on the human capacity to reason and create meaning and rejects theocentrism and superstition. It emphasises human freedom, responsibility, and potential, and encourages the pursuit of human excellence. Humanism is a broad intellectual movement which has affected many aspects of modern culture, including art, literature and education. It has also been applied to ethical issues, such as freedom and autonomy, environmental protection and care for animals. Humanism is a powerful force for social change, as it promotes democratic values and encourages mutual respect, understanding, and compassion for all individuals.
