Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by intense fear of situations with potential triggers such as crowded places, public transportation, open spaces and unfamiliar environments. Symptoms can include avoidance of the triggering space or situation, leading to extreme distress, fear of leaving the house, and feelings of helplessness. It is seen as a disabling condition that can have a significant impact on personal and professional life, and can severely limit daily activities. Treatment typically involves cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication, with the aim of reducing the fear and enabling people to live without distress.
