Childhood Arthritis
Childhood arthritis is a type of chronic pain condition that affects children and typically causes inflammation and stiffness in the joints. It is commonly seen in children ages 5 to 15, but can begin in infancy. In severe cases, the pain can be debilitating and can inhibit movement. It is important to recognize this condition early; early diagnosis and management can improve a child’s outlook and minimize long term disability. Treatment options include medications to reduce inflammation, physical and occupational therapy to maintain range of motion, and lifestyle changes to reduce stressors that may exacerbate symptoms. Early diagnosis and intervention of childhood arthritis is key for managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
