Phycobiliproteins

Phycobiliproteins are water-soluble proteins found in certain algae and cyanobacteria. They are composed of a protein part and a pigment part, which is responsible for their brightly colored appearance. They are important for photosynthesis and may be used in medical applications. In research settings, they are used as fluorescent probes due to their ability to absorb and emit light. They are also used in bioremediation, as they have the ability to absorb pollutants from water. Phycobiliproteins have important implications in applications such as medical diagnosis, drug delivery, bioimaging, tissue engineering and biosensors.
