Neurodegeneration
Neurodegeneration is a term used to describe the progressive loss of structure or function of neurons, which are the primary cells of the nervous system. The most common types of neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Neurodegeneration can lead to memory loss, difficulty movement, cognitive decline and other symptoms. Research is ongoing to better understand the causes and develop treatments for these diseases. Early detection and preventive measures are also important to reduce the impact of neurodegenerative diseases.
