Mannitol
Mannitol is a sugar alcohol widely used as a sweetener and laxative. It has the chemical name of Hexanitol and is a white, crystalline solid. It is widely used in foods and beverages, as well as in the pharmaceutical, industrial, and agricultural industries. Its importance lies in its ability to act as a sugar substitute, allowing for the production of low-calorie and low-sugar products. Additionally, Mannitol is useful as an osmotic laxative as it increases water in the intestines, which helps to flush out contents.
