Estrogen Replacement Therapy
Estrogen replacement therapy, sometimes called hormone replacement therapy, is a treatment used to provide relief from the symptoms of menopause. Estrogen is a hormone produced by the ovaries which helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and other sexual functions. During menopause, the body produces less and less estrogen, causing hot flashes, night Sweats and other uncomfortable symptoms. Estrogen replacement therapy helps to replace the lost estrogen, providing relief from menopausal symptoms. The therapy may also be prescribed to help prevent age-related bone loss and reduce the risk of heart disease. Benefits and risks of estrogen replacement therapy should be discussed with your doctor to determine if it is the right choice for you.
