Disorientation
Disorientation is a condition in which an individual has difficulty being aware of their surroundings, usually accompanied by confusion and restlessness. It is often a sign of medical conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, brain tumors, stroke, delirium, mental illness, substance abuse, and sleep deprivation. Disorientation can lead to difficulty in activities of daily living, including remembering where the individual is, what day or time it is, and potential safety issues due to inability to process new stimuli or recognize familiar situations or people. Healthcare professionals may evaluate disorientation and make recommendations for appropriate treatments or interventions to help alleviate symptoms and lessen the risk of harm.
