Adiponectin

Adiponectin is a protein secreted by the fat cells of mammals. It has diverse roles in metabolism and is of great interest to researchers studying metabolic diseases. Adiponectin is found to be decreased in obese individuals and those with metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It is also linked to altering glucose metabolism and energy balance in the body. Studies suggest a decreased level of this hormone can be linked to higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Increasing its levels through various dietary interventions and exercise can help in the prevention and management of metabolic diseases.
