Healing Environment

Healing Environment, or Therapeutic Environment, is a concept of providing a positive and supportive atmosphere, with special consideration given to the physical environment and its effects on health, wellbeing and functioning. It is used to create an environment which decreases stress and promotes healing, recovery, and resilience in those affected by serious illnesses, trauma and disabilities. By utilizing techniques such as environmental design, interior design and landscape design, a Healing Environment has the potential to provide an environment that reduces stress, enhances physical and psychological comfort, and promotes healing and recovery. The use of colour, texture, sound, aromatherapy, light, and visual stimulus are all elements which composes Healing Environments. Research has demonstrated that Healing Environments have numerous beneficial effects on physical, psychological, and social health, including improved mood, symptom reduction, decreased stress, improved functioning, and enhanced quality of life.
